Bio - Mark Samsel
I am a 30 year resident of Windham, residing on Depot Rd with my wife Janet which we celebrate our 25th anniversary in August and where we raised our 3 children. Our 2 daughters Abbey and Emily attended Windham Schools, and graduated from Salem High participating in sports and the acclaimed Blue Devil Marching band and Winter Guard. Abbey recently graduated from Simmons College with both Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education. Emily attends Mass College of Pharmacy and will graduate this spring. Our son Gregory is entering Windham High this fall, is a Life Scout in Troop 266 and we look forward to him earning his Eagle in the next year.
Professionally, I have been in Information Technology for 30 years managing Professional Service organizations for both small and large companies which included P&L and site operational responsibility. Currently I am employed as a Senior Manager at the Lincoln Financial Group, located in Concord.
My community service started with my involvement in youth sports in both Windham and Salem to starting a successful Non profit organization and earning an elected position on the Windham Zoning Board of Adjustment. I have currently served on the Windham ZBA for 5.5 years, sitting as Chairman for 4 years. The Board hears on average 75 cases per year. As Chairman I have not missed any meetings, and only 1 as a regular member, as inclimate weather delayed me in Augusta Me.
I have been privileged to have associated myself with a exceptional group of individuals to form the Windham Rail Trail Alliance and develop the first 3.5 miles of the Granite State Rail Trail that will span from Salem to Concord.
As President, the WRTA has developed a paved trail that sets the standard in New Hampshire, for beauty and functionality, funded through 70/30 private/public funds, which is unprecedented for a trail of this type.. This trail has served as the start of current expansion to Derry and Salem, that will bring economic, recreational, and functional use to many in the community. That effort required legislation, support at the community level, and collaboration with various State agencies.
