Mark Samsel for NH State Representative
Windham/Salem District 4 - 2012!
I would like to thank everyone in District 4 who voted and supported me to the Primary run!
Although I did not make the 13 to the General election, it was a learning experience that afforded me to catch up with many acquaintances from the past and meet new people, many who share the same values and concerns that I have for New Hampshire and of course its effects on Windham and Salem.
As in the past, I will still be involved at the legislative and agency level and happy to extend assistance in any way that I can. Simply drop a note.
The next 2 years are very, very critical for the state. The biggest disappointment I thought was for the urgency of this election the vote count was low. As we are fortunate to have our vote counted, make sure to show up on November 14.
Until 2012!
This is not the New Hampshire I moved to 30 years ago, not the New Hampshire that my neighbors and many I have met throughout the state and country that have seen it as unique and special. With the budget fiasco we currently face, inept solutions such as bridging the shortfall through temporary federal appropriations, implementing additional taxes and fees will lead to the results hitting at the local level and are not openly discussed or addressed by the current majority. We have lost the advantage, we are not business friendly. The 2011 session must be dedicated to bringing New Hampshire back on course and values. I would like to work on your behalf to see that done.
I do not want to see a legislature with a desire to place additional financial burden on its citizens and business and continue the erosion of family values and individual liberties.
With encouragement of many of my family, friends, acquaintances who serve in Concord and my dedicated interest, I ask for your vote and support on September 14.
What to expect from me:
1) I will show up to represent the citizens of Windham and Salem.
District 4 has not been adequately represented by incumbents missing House session and Committee dates. In my 4 years of elected responsibility on the Windham Zoning Board of Adjustment as Chairman, I have not missed one regular or special scheduled meeting. As an elected official I believe it is an expected commitment by citizens, and owed by those who hold any office.
2) I will vote constantly representing conservative and fiscally responsible values.
Seven District 4 incumbents voted less than 70% of the time representing conservative positions. We have Representatives voting their personal agendas, not the intentions of their constituents. I value Article 2-a of the New Hampshire Constitution and Article 2 of the US Constitution. I will vote representing conservative and fiscal values such as a balanced state budget, support of family values and 2nd Amendment rights.
3) I will work for bringing fiscal responsibility back to the state.
The reality of the economic downturn has not hit at the state or town level. Difficult decisions lay in front of the next legislative body which have been avoided in the past sessions. Spending must be reduced as revenue has decreased.
- Real spending cuts are required, not paper reductions. Agencies must be held accountable to a reduced balanced budget, a gain in operational efficiencies and not excess spending.
4) I will support efforts to make New Hampshire the "state of choice" for business to establish roots.
- Fostering the success of our business community, large and small by taking aggressive action to make this a business friendly state. We must stimulate our economy by lowering taxes, fees and advocating for less regulatory burden for our business community and citizens.
- Making New Hampshire a desirable state to do business from.
- I support the introduction of Casino gaming to the state, through quality venues, bringing sustained revenue and providing employment opportunities, however not an excuse to increase spending to an anticipated revenue stream.
5) I will place priority on what needs addressing, not waste anyone’s time with frivolous bills.
This past legislative body put social issues in front of the fiscal issues that absolutely needed priority attention. There are way more important legislative actions to attend to instead of naming a state beverage. The legislature does not have the luxury at this time to pursue such legislation.
6) I will get answers and get things done.
My 8 years of work on the Windham Rail Trail has afforded me to meet and work with many in the legislature and key agencies which decisions are required as part of the process. I have learned the importance of having strong relationships with those who are decision makers, influencers and results oriented. I am confident my experience will benefit Windham and Salem.
